RISK - a four letter word?

If you're waiting for an industry or market to validate your ideas, you will be moving too slow to make a difference.  Too many times developers wait to have their ideas or inventions chosen or proven by another before they take the risk of building it to its full potential.

Don't misinterpret what I am saying.  Many of the best ideas need to be reworked, built upon and enhanced through constructive criticism and a different point-of-view.  But there's a huge difference between good feedback and corporate oppression.

If you have a vision for building a company or product, do it. If you want to build a new software application, build it. No need to wait for someone with a big title to validate your idea.

A good reason to do it...

It is a lot easier to put off a task today for tomorrow's "to do" list.   After all, today's interruption is getting in the way of all of your many more important tasks like watching TV, engaging in useless banter with a co-worker or surfing through your FaceBook account in hopes to find someone who is having a more useless day than you.

So don't waste all that attention and talent, every single day. The fact that it is easy to do something meaningless does not make it meaningful.  Don't reward your wasteful behavior.  I promise you that changing your view will positively change your progress and outlook on the world around you.  It will be the game changer for your personal growth and success.

Don't Waste Time Fighting Shadow Wars

The conflicts that give you the most anxiety and occupy the majority of your planning, are many times the ones that won't happen.  Many soldiers spend time on the little issues and distractions closest at hand.   This can guide a warrior to miss the most relevant activities because he becomes preoccupied defending against an imaginary enemy who might be looming behind every shadow.

You can only fight as long as your motivation will let you

Your motivation has to come from within you.  It can't be bought, it can't be taught and it can't be faked.  Many people underestimate the level of effort it takes to win a battle and over time a war.  To finish a battle requires courage, perseverance and commitment.  You've got to be committed to your goal or you won't be successful.  And if you're not willing to prepare, you'll never succeed.

Battling like a true warrior is one activity that gives you what you put into it.   Warriors willing to train and study their progress will discover that the battles they face can be an adventure that provides them much more pleasure than pain.

Faster than a Speeding Bullet

Today it seems many folks can't make a decision without some sort of CYA strategy.  Although a sad reality, it can be a huge opportunity for a warrior.  Using speed coupled with a dash of intelligence on a CYA opponent can be the most effective way for you to daze and confuse.  Hitting first, before your competition has time to take action or deploy a clear strategy, can promote mistakes and errors in their judgement.  Followed up with another quick and forceful strike will likely cause more errors and panic.   Becoming faster and more forceful than a speeding bullet will deliver unbridled momentum and ultimately victory.

A Warrior Controls the Environment and Tone

The superior warrior does not need his powerful punch or speed to react to his opponent's strike.  Instead he creates a rhythm to the war that fits his style...winning some battles and retreating in others.  He controls the battle field, positioning his adversary so they are exposed without cover, retreating towards him, away from him or into the line of fire from other warriors.  A great warrior creates his opponent's frustration, mistakes and overall collapse through the opponent's actions.  Winning the war by controlling the environment and tone of each and every battle.

What is your definition of success?

Regardless of the events that brought you to the battle, you really have only two maneuvers to choose.  Surrender and become a prisoner or face the battle directly and experience all of the possibilities that your creativity and the changes you make have to offer.

Selecting the route of the true warrior and facing your fears and challenges without hesitation is my definition of success.

Pull the Pin and Declare WAR

Work is a never ending flurry of firefights and battles, and you will never climb the ranks from a private to general unless you can identify who the enemies are.  People can be coy, clever and cunning when masking their intentions, and just because they wear the same uniform, does not mean they are on your side.  You need to think clearly and realistically.  Learn to sniff out the enemy and spot them by the tracks and trash they leave behind.  And once you discover their location...........declare war.

Beware of the Business Blocker

It's not very hard to become stalled by trying to figure out what your customer really sees as their next big hurdle.  And when you do finally figure it out, it becomes an even bigger challenge to break through the various success blockers who try and keep you from getting your solution in front of the people who want to buy it.

It's easy to forget what the blocker wants.

If the blocker can't make money or get a promotion from your solution, why will they help you?  And if the blocker sees an easier path to making money or getting that promotion, they may mislead you.  You can view these things as foolish or even something that won't happen to you. Or you can wake up and realize it is simply a part of the process and is as "real" as the gatekeepers who rely on them.

Beware of the blockers and the paths they map out for you.  The mistake could make you forget the end user. And we know how that that story ends.

NEVER THROW YOUR LAST PUNCH: The Mind of the Scrapper

What wears you out and beats you up the most is the past.  You must not stop fighting against the past and drive yourself to defend and battle the present moment.  Be tough and relentless on yourself; never duplicate the same exact fight sequence twice.  Declare WAR on your mind.  Don't allow yourself to get sloppy in your strategy... be nimble and smart with every motion.
